Driplines are essential parts of a drip irrigation system as they provide efficiency of water distribution to the plants. Damage to the driplines causes leakages, unequal water supply, and damage to other parts of the irrigation system. Plants therefore fail to receive water and the farm bear’s low yield.

Effect of Adverse Weather on Driplines

Heavy rains is a major cause of damage to driplines. it causes severe clogging, disconnection of pipes and flooding which may even carry driplines away. The ongoing heavy rainfall in East Africa has left many farmers complaining of damaged drip irrigation systems.

Dripline Replacement is Better than Repair

One-time replacement of driplines is better than repairs done to leaking parts. Simple fixes using a coupler, or tapes are not reliable for a long-term solution. Driplines can leak again since they are old and not strong enough to withstand water pressure and damage.

Reasons for Dripline Replacement

Many cases result in the need for the replacement of driplines in an irrigation system. The scenarios that require dripline replacement are.

  • Dripline Cracks – Driplines may crack or wear out due to movement during farm preparation. Mishandling and sometimes careless weeding may result in cutting the driplines. Cracks release a lot of water and thus more waste.
  • Clogging of driplines – Accumulation of silt in the driplines leads to clogging of the driplines. Clogged pipes fail to supply water to farm sections and dry patches of the soil.
  • Bursting of driplines – high pressure or use of low-quality driplines causes driplines to burst.
  • Leaking of pipes or fittings – Driplines develop leaks easily from improper installation or damaged dripline sections.

Components for Dripline Replacement

Things you will need to replace the drip irrigation system are;

  • Scissors – for cutting dripline rolls to obtain the required length in meters.
  • Driplines 16mm rolls – Actual driplines for replacement
